It's A New Year

Hi everyone, I am back and so sorry for being away from my blog for so long.  I have had so much on with holidays and holidays and Christmas and more holidays.  Life did get a little hectic before Christmas having dance and school concerts and battling pneumonia, but I also had alot of fun.

In Bali just before Christmas.  We had a fun relaxing holiday with the kids.  Bali is such a fun place, the girls liked having their nails painted and hair done.  Thomas loved the Urangatang at the zoo, he wanted to bring him home.

 

It has been very hot in Perth, Western Australia at the moment.  We have had temperatures of 42C + last week.  Times like this is when you need to stay indoors and not do too much.  The kids  spent most days swimming in the pool and  all their friends too - a pool in your backyard is fun and very social.  We celebrated Australia Day with an Aussie BBQ, pool party and then rode our bikes to the foreshore in Perth to see the fireworks.

I have been getting some stitching done.  I have worked on my Vignette quilt, I am loving it so much.  This quilt is for me, I dont think I could ever part from it.  One day it will be finished, the journey of working on it is so much fun.

I was lucky to do a machine emboidery workshop with Helen in Pinjarra before Christmas.  Here is my unfinished Owl.  I had so much fun making fabric, choosing design, playing with cotton, letting my imagination flow.  I hope you like it.

Holiday in Hong Kong and Beijing

 In the October school holidays we ventured to Hong Kong and Beijing with my family and my Mum came along too.  My girls danced at Disneyland and Ocean World, they did a great job and Thomas was one of their greatest supporters.  Disneyland is truly the happiest place in the world, the feeling is amasing when you walk through the main gates, see Main Street and the Castle (I get all funny when I think of this).  The whole atmosphere of Hong Kong was great, the hustle and bustle and who got the best bargain.  The shops, the tall buildings, the people, the food were truly amasing.  We ventured to all the markets, the kids made it so much fun – we would give them HK Dollars and the person with the most “stuff” was the winner (we then had to find a way to get it all home).

We then flew to Beijing, wow was all we could say when we were landing.  The city was in greyness, it was cool but didn't feel dirty, I've never seen smog like this before.  We ventured to The Egg (The National Arts Centre),Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, the Ming Tombs, the Bell Tower, the Great Wall, Olympic Park (The Birds Nest and the Cube), the Hutongs (old Beijing) where we had  a family cooking lesson and a favourite for the kids, the rickshaw ride.  We had an adventure planned for each day.  We did a lot of walking and was just amased and in awe of everything we did.  This was a truly amasing holiday, a place I have always wanted to visit, a place I never thought I would see.  We could not believe how big the Great Wall was, we walked a small section and it was really steep and huge steps. The view of the wall working its way through the Mountains was spectacular.
